COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION of 25 February 1993 on the European firearms pass

Having regard to the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community, and in particular Article 155 thereof,

Whereas Annex II to Council Directive 91/477/EEC of 18 June 1991 on control of the acquisition and possession of weapons (1) sets out the information which must be contained in a European firearms pass but gives no indication of the layout of the pass;

Whereas the purpose of the European firearms pass is to facilitate the free movement of sportsmen wishing to engage in hunting or target shooting in the Community; whereas a uniform pass bearing a common logo will be a tangible sign that this objective has been achieved;

Whereas a uniform layout for the European firearms pass will also make the pass immediately recognizable to authorities who may need to examine it in the Member States; whereas such checks will be facilitated if the order and numbering of sections is made uniform, and a glossary included,

RECOMMENDS THAT:

Sole Article

In transposing the Directive, Member States should ensure that the European firearms pass which they issue conforms to the specimen annexed hereto.
